Steven Yochum’s photography is traditional black & white in natural light, using the gelatin silver process. Film is exposed to an image and developed, after which the negative is projected to print on paper in a darkroom — these images are true representations of reality as experienced at the moment. In this era of manipulated and AI-generated images, it can be nearly impossible to know what is reality. In contrast, these photographs are certifiably true with the only digital processing being in the scanning for this website. Each unique print is a vivid presentation of a scene, with clarity, tone and depth that is only coarsely approximated digitally on this site. These prints are rendered using techniques proven to create enduring works of art that will persist for decades or centuries.
